CBOT Agricultural Complex Reaches New Volume Record

The Chicago Board of Trade today announced that its Agricultural complex set a volume record yesterday for the second time this month. The new record, 976,685 contracts, surpassed the previous high mark of 929,546 contracts set on October 5, 2006.

The Exchange set volume records across the Agricultural complex on Thursday, including new high marks for Agricultural futures contracts, Agricultural options on futures contracts and electronically-traded Agricultural futures and options contracts. CBOT Agricultural futures volume reached a record 804,535 contracts yesterday, eclipsing the previous record of 761,291 contracts, set on October 5, 2006. Agricultural Options saw volume grow to a record 172,150 contracts, surpassing the prior record – 168,255 contracts set on October 5, 2006. And on the Exchange’s e-cbot® electronic trading platform, combined Agricultural futures and options volume was 274,233. The previous electronic Agricultural volume record was 256,987 contracts, set on October 10, 2006.

Also on Thursday, the CBOT Corn Complex set a volume record – 490,819 contracts. The previous record, 435,635 contracts, was set on August 11, 2006. CBOT Corn options also set an open interest record. The new high mark, 1,252,013 contracts, surpasses the previous record of 1,233,766 contracts set on October 11, 2006.
